PNG Air confirms Alotau robbery
PNG Air has confirmed that its sales office in Alotau town in Milne Bay province was robbed by armed criminals on Monday despite talks of it being a hoax.
PNG Air CEO Mr. Muralee Siva confirmed that three female staffs at the sales office were held up by two armed men with a homemade pistol and a bush knife and a small amount of cash was taken during the holdup. The three staff members later barricaded themselves in an office before being rescued by police.
“We are grateful that no one was harmed during this incident and have been heartened by the many messages of support we have received from the local Milne Bay community. PNG Air is providing all necessary support for the affected staff including counselling,” the CEO said.
Mr. Siva added that the investigation is in the hands of the police now and they only hope to re-open the sales office shortly.
Meanwhile, this station did not manage to speak to the Provincial Police Commander, Joseph MOREHARE but ACP for Southern Region, Allan KUNDI confirmed that there was a robbery and that the PPC will be speaking to media soon on the matter.
