Samoan Authority urges Employers to verify education qualifications
Samoa Qualifications Authority is urging employers to verify documents submitted by prospective employees.
The alert follows the discovery of fraudulent certificates.
Assistant Chief Executive Officer of SQA Taua Su’a Molia Taioalo says the threat has been on the rise, especially with the two consecutive cases of fraudulent certificates being discovered by their team of experts.
“We have a special team allocated to take care of these issues, with scrutinizing a certificate to ensure that they are legitimate. It is important that they are passed by the authorities before they are accepted,” he said.
“There are forms that need to be filled and included in these forms are the copies of the certificates and a signature from a lawyer that confirms the certificates are legit,” he added.
SQA scrutinizes the certificates and then refers its conclusion to employers.
It is up to the employer to determine how it will handle the matter.
