Lae Snax Tigers down Agmark Rabaul Gurias 14 - 8 to win 2016 Digicel Cup Grand Final
The Lae Snax Tigers snatched their first grand final win on Saturday after defeating last year’s premiership holders the Agmark Rabaul Gurias 14-8.
Despite the Gurias strong dominance in the past games leading up to the grand final, it was not the same as the Tigers had the upper hand in the game.
The Snax Tigers scored two converted tries in the first half while the Gurias scored one try with an unsuccessful conversion, trailing at 4 points and the Tigers leading with 12 points by half time.
The Gurias managed to put another unconverted try in the 2nd half but that was all they could do as the boys from Lae brought their team to victory with one penalty kick bringing the score to 14-8 by full time.
It was a moment of celebration for Tigers Coach Stanley Tepend and his boys who have come close to winning a good number of grand finals but have never succeeded until yesterday.
Meanwhile the Gurias dedicated their game to the late Joe Pidik who died this week from an injury he sustained from the spectator violence that happened last weekend following the Gurias win over the Mt Hagen Eagles. PNGFM/PNG Today
