Olam scoops awards at Hunters Awards night
The SP PNG Hunters officially closed the 2016 season with an awards night to recognize player achievements over the course of the 2016 Intrust Super Cup rugby league season.
The big winner of the night was Melbourne Storm bound Justin Olam who scooped up two awards for the top try Scorer of the year and Rookie of the year categories.
“I am ready to do all I can to earn a first grade spot at the Storm. I’m going to rip them apart and I will utilize this opportunity to prove to all the Papua New Guineans that you can follow the system we have in place and make it into rugby league’s toughest competition the NRL, in receiving this awards tonight I want to give all glory to God it is because of him I have achieved all this blessings in such a short time," said Olam.
Other category winners on the night was Bland Abavu who bagged the Best Back of the year award, Best forward went to Brandy Peter, Best Defender went to Hunters foundation player Thomson Tete, Clubman of the year Adex Wera, Players Player of the year Wartovo Puara, Chairman’s Bonara Award was won by Warren Glare with Esau Siune rounding off the winners circle with the Coaches Award.
Chairman for the Hunters Graham Osborne paid tribute to the players and thanked the family of sponsors and the nation as a whole who have given the Hunters support to be successful over the course of the season and the last three years. Framed and signed Jersey’s were presented to the corporate sponsors along with an away jersey given to all participating Hunters players that were part of the playing roster for 2016.
The Hunters take a short break and will commence pre-season training for their campaign on the 2017 season in eight weeks time however most of the players will be available for the PM XIII match against and Australian select side led by Greg Inglis with the PM’s XIII team to be announced this evening.
