PNG and Japan set for future of trade
JX Nippon, a Japanese energy company who plays a large role in the PNG LNG project, has sent a delegation to Port Moresby in recent days to discuss their business and announce plans to reinvest in PNG. The investments by the company will include better training for local workers and other similar efforts to improve PNG's oil and gas sector.
The Prime Minister, Hon Peter O'Neill has thanked the company for their continued corporate social involvement around PNG”The Government thanks JX Nippon for it commitment to investing in Papua New Guinea.” The Prime Minister said. “I commend JX Nippon for instituting a training program for Papua New Guineans, with the most recent students graduating just two weeks ago.”
President of JX Nippon, Shunsaku Miyake, thanked the Prime Minister for his support. He is currently in the country to engage with several ongoing projects and express their desire to be involved in upcoming LNG projects.
This is great news for PNG, where energy exports make up such a large part of the economy. Keeping international investors interested in the country will hopefully create opportunities in the future.
