Tonga's King Tupou VI meets with President of Singapore
His Majesty King Tupou VI met President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Thursday afternoon in Singapore also present was Her Majesty – Queen Nanasipau’u.
Radio Tonga reports the visit was seek help on training opportunities for the Kingdom’s health services.
According to a press statement from the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, King Tupou VI has also held dialogue with senior Ministers from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the Ministry of Health – Dr. Amy Khor, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social and Family Development – Dr. Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, and the Parliamentary Secretary.
King Tupou VI had also received briefings on Singapore’s education and healthcare systems, as well as Singapore’s experience in heritage preservation, tourism development and port management.
The report says this is an opportunity to train Tonga’s health staff on Non Communicable Diseases and Public Health was discussed while His Majesty was at Singapore.
Their Majesties and delegates, which included the Minister of Health – Dr. Saia Piukala and the Director of Health – Dr. Siale ‘Akau’ola departed Singapore.
Singapore has an efficient and widespread system of healthcare and was ranked 6th in the World Health Organization’s ranking of the world’s health systems in the year 2000.
