Work on PMIZ reachers stalemate
The promised Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) project situated close to the RD Tuna cannery in Vidar Madang Province that was to deliver 30, 000 job with 10 tuna processing plants has come to a standstill with no work, no work machinery and no one in or around the site leaving the area in a deserted state.
“Bikpla samting em disla ol impact project lo helvim ol pipol na taim ol Gavaman ibin kam na startim ol wok lo hia, ol pipol planti mahn meri ting olsem ol ibai gat ol liklik share or royality blong ol tasol ol lain ol ass ples ol yet wok lo koros go kam wantaim ol lain lo Rempi tu kam insite na disla mekim na olgeta wok em stop”, ( “The biggest thing is that the project is an impact project that was to assist the people, when the Government started work here a lot of people thought they would receive royalties, but the local villagers themselves started having conflicts among themselves and even the people up at Rempi have gotten involed resulting in the stop work.”) Said local Vidar villager John Nagakuri.
Minister for State Enterprises William Duma during a parliament session in June also confirmed that the issues with the Provincial Government and landowners were the main obstacle delaying the completion of the project site when questioned by the Member for Bulolo Sam Basil. PNGFM / PNG Today
