Medical Ships MV YWAM PNG on her way to Papua New Guinea

YWAM’s Training and Medical Ship, the MV YWAM PNG, and her team of volunteers will arrive in Port Moresby today, ready to begin an 8-month deployment to the Southern region and Huon Gulf.
The voyage comes after the successful completion of the first part of Stage III of the MV YWAM PNG’s refit; the construction of an improved patient waiting area, medical re-stock room, a training space for local health workers, and an extended-range patrol tender.
YWAM Medical Ships Managing Director, Mr Ken Mulligan, said it was wonderful to have the MV YWAM PNG on her way home to PNG.

“Hundreds of healthcare professionals, mariners and general volunteers from all over the world will be serving aboard the MV YWAM PNG over the next 8 months, including a strong number of Papua New Guineans.
“We are grateful to all who have given their support to get us to this point, we are set for another great outreach,” said Mr Mulligan.
Field activities that will be delivered over the next 8-months include dentistry procedures, maternal health services, immunisations, eye care, diagnostic services, health promotion and collegial support and mentoring for local health workers.

YWAM Medical Ships’ Patron for PNG, the Right Honourable Sir Rabbie Namaliu, said it brings him great joy to soon be welcoming the MV YWAM PNG back to PNG waters.
“We’ve been on a remarkable journey so far – the service of this Training and Medical Ship in PNG would not be possible without the support of the PNG National Government, Southern Region and Morobe Provincial Governments, and our corporate sponsors along with wonderful contributions from Australian Aid and grassroot supporters. It’s a real team effort,” said Sir Rabbie.
Meetings will be happening with key stakeholders aboard the MV YWAM PNG this week before she departs for outreach to the Gulf Province this weekend, over 100 volunteers will be aboard for the voyage from 12 nations.
Major supporters of YWAM Medical Ships work in PNG include the PNG National Government, Puma Energy, Australian Aid, Steamships Trading Company, PNG Ports Corporation and Morobe, Milne Bay, Oro, Central and Western Provincial Governments, Pro-Ma Systems and the Sohe District Development Authority.
