Police Chief Gari Baki upset over confiscated firearms
Police Commissioner, Gari Baki is upset that the PNG Customs has confiscated a shipment of firearms for the police force.
Mr. Baki says he's been following movement of the shipment, and is not happy he was not informed of the arms being confiscated by the Customs in Lae.
The confiscated shipment is a second for the Constabulary, following an initial shipment of arms prior to the 2012 National elections.
Former Customers Commissioner and Northern Governor, Gary Juffa, told NBC News, the shipment is criminal, and was confiscated, because processes and procedures of the import did not follow Customs requirements.
However, Commissioner Baki is upset of being kept in the dark.
"I've talked to the Customs Commissioner myself, I've seen the report that was conducted, and I'm not satisfied with the report, because as the Commissioner of Police I should have been asked to make a comment on it.
"I was not asked about it.
"And had they spoken to me about it, I would've added clarity into it, and it would not have resulted in the shipment being confiscated and impounded by Customs." NBC News
