The 2017 National Budget will be handed down in parliament on Tuesday (01/11/16) afternoon and former Prime Minister Sir Mekere Morauta is calling on the National government to construct and follow through with it.
“Budget is the pathway it sets out where the nation is going, and Government must ensure this very important document is constructed properly, presented properly and followed though properly with everyone having a say in its process and structure.” stated Sir Mekere Morauta.
With the press budget lockup to be held from 10am – 2pm and the makeup of the budget to be explained in detail during the lockup, it is expected that at 2pm the Treasurer will then present the budget to parliament and adjourn for a week.
This one week is for the opposition to prepare its response to the budget. Following the opposition’s reply, Parliament debates the budget and votes for passage.
