Samoa listed as one of the hottest emerging island destinations for Australians

Travel search engine KAYAK has listed Samoa as one of the destinations that has seen a surge in interest from Australian holiday planners ahead of summer.

According to the metasearch engine, it comes as more and more Australians are seeking alternative, under-the-radar destinations for their holiday. Samoa joins the likes of lesser-known island holiday spots such as Tonga, Balipapan and Puerto Princesa.

KAYAK VP for the APEC region Debby Soo attributes this to the adventurous and trend setting nature of Australians with the “been there, done that” mentality.

Samoa has always been an attractive alternative to the Bali-weary traveller seeking to escape the hustle and bustle as well as the crowds, who is after the tropical paradise retreat without costing them the Earth.

Samoa has also experienced a spike in interest as the destination was showcased in the recent series of Australian Survivor.

Sonja Hunter, CEO of Samoa Tourism Authority believes that Australians in general are trend setters when it comes to discovering emerging destinations in the region.

“Aussies have always had a love affair in discovering the new and the unexplored. They love to have bragging rights when it comes to visiting destinations yet to be discovered by the rest of the world. Samoa offers all the mod cons without the baggage – you can immerse yourself in the traditional and undiscovered without compromising or sacrificing creature comforts. Yes, you can explore and get off the beaten track and discover a world that takes you back to the past and still have a gorgeous spa treatment at the end of a day filled with adventures. In many ways, we are the South Pacific’s best kept secret,” says Sonja.
