Manus Police deny bashing Asylum Seekers
Manus Police have refuted claims on overseas media relating to the bashing of asylum seekers during New Year celebrations in the island province.
Acting Police boss David Yapu said there is no report before him relating to his men bashing up 2 asylum seekers during the New Year as stated in the media and only confirmed the arrest and charging of 3 Iranian asylum seekers for unlawful behavior warranting their arrest.
The media report by AAP posted images of injuries of the 2 asylum seekers after the alleged bashing by Police and Immigration officials but none of the victims gave a formal report to police to allow investigations into the alleged bashing.
Mr. Yapu said as it is, they will await formal complaints on the bashing before any investigation can commence. PNGFM/ PNG Today
