New Edevu Hydro Dam project launched
The people of Central Province can expect a boost in electricity service in the near future following the official launching of the new Edevu Hydro Power project yesterday.
The project is a public private partnership project between PNG POWER Ltd (PPL) and a Chinese company, PNG Hydro. Under the arrangement, PPL will be purchasing power from the company to supply power once the dam is complete.
The hydro dam will be used to supply electricity to all of Central province and parts of Gulf province and Port Moresby city as well.
The project was later officially launched by the recently suspended Minister for Public Enterprise and Member for Mt. Hagen, William Duma.
Mr. Duma also urged the landowners to work together with their local leaders to ensure they get the best from the Edevu Hydro Dam project as well.
Speaking on behalf of the prime minister at the official launching, Mr. Duma called on LLG’s, Ward Councillors and landowners to appreciate this massive hydro dam project in their area made possible through a lot of ideas, talks and work put together to get it off the ground.
Duma explained that landowners will continue to benefit from this project, but to really get the best out of it is to have good cooperation with their leaders, the Central Governor Kila Haoda and Kairuku Hiri MP, Peter Iso Aimo.
“Let us work together and if there is misunderstanding let us clear it, there is money to be made for all of the people,” he said.
