PNG Defence Secretary arrested

The suspended Secretary for Defence has been arrested by police in Port Moresby.

NCD Central Comander, Sylvester Kalaut has provided details of Mr Vali Asi's arrest.

"Mr Asi was charged with five counts under the Summary Offences Act.

"The charges includes assault, abusive words and offensive behaviour," he said.

"The arrest stems from a report from his personal assistant late last year, who reported that Mr Asi had mistreated her," Comander Kalaut said.

Comander Kalaut said Mr Asi has been released on a K1000 bail. NBC News
