PNG Govt to establish Eastern Papua Institute of Agriculture and Technology
The Papua New Guinea Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) has announced the establishment of the Eastern Papua Institute of Agriculture and Technology.
The National Executive Council in July 2014, made a decision to establish six (6) new higher education institutions in the country one of which is Eastern Papua Institute of Agriculture and Technology.
This NEC Decision effectively reversed the amalgamation of Popondetta Agriculture College known then as the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) Oro Campus.
In the same decision, NEC directed the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) then Office of Higher Education to take charge of implementing the decision.
The university will be focused on training students in the areas of agriculture and technology.
Agriculture is one area that the Government identifies as targeted programs for scholarship apart from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs which are also in line with the Government’s commitment to APEC policy priorities and PNG Vision 2050. Post Courier/PNG Today
