Telikom PNG's network upgrade improves internet services in the country
Telikom PNG's network has upgraded its asymmetrical digital subscriber line switches in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
This increases bandwidth capacity up to 24mbps for existing and new landline internet services to residential and business customers. It launched its 4G LTE mobile service in Mt Hagen.
“We now can provide super-fast internet services in the city through our existing copper and fibre cable infrastructure to businesses and residential customers,” Mt Hagen branch manager Pang Pawa said.
The availability of more capacity on the new transmission network into the highlands region from Madang and Port Moresby will allow Telikom to deliver services to customers who demand high bandwidths.
“As long as there is an existing fixed line telephony service in the residence, office or shop, we can convert this very quickly to carry both voice and internet services.
“Our system specialists from Port Moresby involved in commissioning the new switch have trained local technical teams to install and maintain all fixed internet services connected to the new switch.
“We also have modems available in Mt Hagen so our response time to customers will be much shorter.”
He said 400 customers had chosen the upgraded internet service.
Similar upgrades have been done at the Kagamuga airport in Western Highlands, Minj, Banz, Jiwaka provincial headquarters at Kurumul and CLTC in Jiwaka, Kundiawa in Chimbu, Wabag, Wapenamanda and Paiam in Enga, Ialibu in Southern Highlands and Tari in Hela.
