PNG Hunters beat Northern Pride in thriller

The SP Papua New Guinea Hunters came from behind to beat Northern Pride 18 - 14 thriller in round 16 of  the Intrust Super Cup match played at Barlow Park in Australia tonight.

The home side  wasted no time as they scored two tries within the first ten minutes through Conner Jones and Sheldon PoweHobss and took the early lead to 12 - 0.

 The Hunters on the other hand were riddled with errors as dropped balls took stall. However,  they fought back  20 minutes later through hooker Wartovo Puara and trailed  12 - 4 after Boas missed the uprights. Both teams exchanged firepower in attack and in defence and could not find the line either and went into the sheds with score line of 12 - 4 at half-time.

The second half began with a penalty to the home side after the Hunters were caught off-side.  Jordon Biodi-Odo converted the penalty to bring their lead to 14 - 4.

The visitors showed why they are the competition leaders with  well executed play that saw stand-in fullback Bland Abavo crossed over for their second try.  Boas added the extras to reduced the margin to 14 - 10.

With final  quarter of the time left on the clock, the Hunters mount  huge pressure on the Pride line. Israel Eliab crossed over next to the uprights for the Hunters third try. Boas added the extras to steal the lead 16 - 14 from the home side.  A penalty was awarded to the Hunters afterwards and captain Boas extended the lead with a penalty shot to 18 - 14.

The home side threw everything in attack but the Hunters proved too strong and held them out to win the game 18 - 14 on full- time.
