USA congratulates Samoa on its 55th Independence
The United States has sent a congratulatory message to the people of Samoa on its 55th Independence Day celebrations today.
Secretary of State, Rex W. Tillerson praised USA and Samoa for their enduring friendship that has deepened following the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971.
“Strengthened by strong ties with the Samoan people, our cultural and historical links have forged a bond of trust and mutual interest,” he said in the message.
“Our countries share a commitment to work together to combat the risk of natural disasters, foster economic developments in the Pacific, manage fishery resources and strengthen democracy and human rights,” Tillerson added.
He also wished Samoa success in the coming future and further strengthening of ties in the years ahead between Samoa and USA.
New Zealand Prime Minister, Bill English and other dignitaries are in Apia for the celebrations.
