‘We’re ready’: after 14 years, the Solomon Islands Police force is now in charge

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force as of this week has taken the full responsibility for the safety and security of Solomon Islands following Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI)’s departure.

Speaking to journalists, Police Commissioner Mathew Varley said the force was well trained and ready to undertake its duties.

“The time has come from here that RSIPF will resume full responsibility for law and order for the safety and security in the Solomon Islands.

“We’re well trained, as we’ve been saying all year, we are ready to undertake that task.”

Meanwhile, 44 Australian Federal Police officers and eight New Zealand Police Officers will remain in the country as part of the capacity development programme.
