He said he is concerned and repulsed at these low-level attitude and behavior of our people.
“It seems there was no security and control, for an event that was to attract so many people. I am totally disappointed with how the planning and coordination was done.
“They must work with local event companies so they can take some kind of responsibility to support the attendees and victims.
“It’s not easy to provide absolute security in such public events but seems no major effort was done to maintain highest level of security possible for the concert. I extend my sympathy to the victims but I also expect the organisers to also apologise to the victims,” he said.
The governor said he is at a loss at what happened and who organised the concert and the measures they took to mitigate such problems.
but from the public reaction it seems that security was poor.
“I am surprised that they were allowed to use the SJGS stadium for three concerts when PNG Sports foundation and their management are normally super sensitive to their turf.”
“Hard to book the stadium due to cost and restriction to protect the turf also it’s the management responsibility to assist with security inside the stadium and it seems they were not prepared too.”
Governor Parkop said that next time a concert of that magnitude is planned; organisers should cooperate with a local events company and also police and city authorities for such major event.
“We have experience in handling such events and can share experience with them so better managed such major public event, it’s irresponsible to not prepare for them in advance ” Post Courier/PNG TOday
