EXXON MOBIL DONATES TO HIRI MOALE FESTIVAL

ExxonMobil PNG Limited (EMPNG), operator of PNG LNG, is supporting the Hiri Moale festival for the third consecutive year with a K50, 000 donation.

The annual festival celebrates the Motu Koitabuan cultures and has been made possible with support from ExxonMobil PNG and the National Capital District.
The Hiri Moale Festival is a significant event for Motu Koitabuans, which originated from the four villages close to the PNG LNG plant; Boera, Papa, Lealea and Porebada.
“We recognise the importance of celebrating and showcasing cultural traditions to preserve the unique cultural and traditional heritages of this country,” said Andrew Barry, managing director of ExxonMobil PNG.
“We are proud of our commitment and look forward to celebrating the Motu Koita culture and values throughout the festival,” said Andrew.
The Hiri Moale festival is being held on September 29 and showcases Motu Koitabuans and involves other tribes with whom they traded throughout their history, including the people of the Gulf, Mekeo, Hula and Koiari. The Hiri trading voyages forged friendship and lineal ties going back centuries.
The festival has also proven to be an important stage for young Motu Koita girls to become cultural ambassadors for their respective villages. It further provides a platform to build their confidence, self-esteem and extend their network and provides further development opportunities.
