Fiji PM wants US in Bonn

Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama hopes the United States will unite with other countries and take a lead role in addressing climate change.

Speaking to more than 300 villagers at Nativi, Ra, Thursday, Bainimarama said the US had removed itself from Conference Of Parties talks and commitments to reduce carbon emissions.

“The US has stepped away from these talks, but we want them included because we need the whole world to unite to reduce carbon emissions, to reduce the impact of climate change,” he said.

He also called on political parties in Fiji to stop politicising the climate change issue and support Fiji as we head to Germany for the Conference Of Parties talks.

Bainimarama made the call to political parties to partner with Government as he prepared to preside over the COP23 meeting in Bonn, Germany in November.
