Schools in Hela affected by Earthquake
Over seven schools in Hela Province have suffered major damages to their infrastructure after the 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the province early last week.
Hela Provincial Education Advisor Joanne Puname said Koroba Secondary, Pajapawi Primary, Purani Primary and many others especially in Koroba Kopiago, Komo and Tari Pori have been severely affected and are currently closed as a result.
Mrs. Puname said the education authorities want to see these schools resume classes as soon as possible and are having close talks with the National Government, Provincial Government and National Disaster office to put in some emergency funding to help fix damage infrastructure so that school can start when it can.
She said Primary schools are not badly affected but it’s a real concern for Secondary schools like Koroba Secondary and Tari Secondary and urged authorities to do something about it in time. PNGFM/PNG Today
