PNG Government plans Air Niugini Pacific route
Two air service agreements were signed at the recent 8th Pacific Island Leaders Meeting in Japan.
In Iwaki, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill signed an agreement with Marshall Islands President Dr Hilda Heine to enable the country’s flag carrier to start flights service there immediately.”
“Basically, it has been agreed already by our officials and for us to enforce it,” O’Neill said at the signing ceremony.
“We have agreed to the air service agreement between the two countries at the margins of PALM 8.”
“I know the officials of both sides have worked hard at finalising the agreement and this signing ceremony reflects our commitment in making sure that the relationship between our two countries continue to be beneficial to both Marshall Islands and Papua New Guinea.
“I want to thank you for allowing us to fly into your country and hopefully those services will benefit fully Papua New Guinea and Marshall Islands in the future.”
“Thank you Prime Minister, as you know this is a long awaited moment for us, as we know we waited a long time and finding an ideal time and I guess PALM 8 is ideal time to put our signatures to the paper,” President Heine said.
“I want to thank you on behalf of the people of Marshall Islands, seeing the challenge Marshall Islands face, transportation is essential service, this means a lot to us.
“This commitment by your government and our relationship is very important and I want to thank you very much for this.”
“The inaugural flight is now being arranged and once all instruments are ready, Air Niugini will service the air route,” O’Neill said.
Also last week, Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato and Japan Foreign Minister Taro Kono signed the Air Service Agreement between PNG and Japan....PACNEWS
