PNG - Australia sign Agreement on Workers Scheme
Papua New Guinea and Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Pacific Labour Scheme in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday.
PNG was represented by Foreign Affairs Minister, Rimbink Pato, and Australia by Minister Marise Payne.
In a statement, Mr Pato announced that the MOU will enable many Papua New Guineans to work in Australia.
Mr Pato says the agreement on labour mobility would bring great benefits to Papua New Guineans who would be able to earn good wages in Australia in order to help their families and the country.
He adds that the offer to work opportunities in rural Australia as well as for semi skilled workmen and women is a sign of the great bond of friendship between the two nations.
