PNG Capital joins to express Sympathy over New Zealand Mosque Massacre
PORT MORESBY: Hundreds of Port Moresby city residents braved the light rain this morning when they turned out to show their sympathy towards the relatives of the victims of the horrific massacre in New Zealand’s Christchurch on Friday.
During the Active City - Walk and Yoga for Life program, National Capital District Governor, Powes Parkop led the residents-with floral tributes-to the streets of Port Moresby to show their solidary towards Muslims all over the world. He said racism has no place in our global diverse world.
At the end of the program in Paga Hill Ring Road under the rain, they prayed for peace amongst the relatives of the victims and, bowed their heads and eyes closed in silence in commemoration of all the champions who sacrificed themselves in the hands of the terrorist.
Mr Parkop said he regretted the one-off incident which sent shockwaves worldwide, adding New Zealand is a model nation where people are tolerant, accommodating, compassionate and honors diversity amongst her people.
He continued that Port Moresby condemned the shooting and stood in solidarity towards the Muslim communities worldwide.
A 28-year-old Australian-born man who was alleged to have committed the crime is now in custody for further investigations.
