Companies in PNG to Operate Without Political Interference - Minister
Organizations or companies in Papua New Guinea that are to directly operate under the ministries of Communication and Energy, State Owned Enterprises (SOE) and Transport respectively will be left to operate as independent organizations without political interference.
This was made known by PNG Minister for Communication & Energy, Leader of Government Business and Finschaffen MP, Rainbo Paita during the recent launch of the new Bemobile and Telikom Internet rates.
Minister Paita who concurred with the new State Owned Enterprises Minister Sasindran Muthuvel said some of the issues faced especially with SOEs is simply because these entities were running like government departments.
Paita says, under the Marape/Steven government, the Minister responsible for Communication & Energy, State Owned Enterprises and Transport and Infrastructure have agreed to let entities under their respective ministries run their operations without political interference.
Minister Paita added qualified people were hired to carry their respective duties and they should be left to carry out those duties.
Paita said it doesn’t make sense when smart people are hired and then are told what to do.
It should be the other way around, we invest and we need smart people so they can tell them what they need to do so that will be the general thinking going forward. FM100/PNG Today
