New Form of Circumcision promoted by WHO

Male circumcision has been recognized as an important HIV prevention method by World Health Organization (WHO).

This will now see the country, through the National Aids Council Secretariat (NACS) roll out a circumcision program soon.

NACS in collaboration with Health Department, has welcomed the latest form of male circumcision called the - SHANG RING, which it says is a safe and effective procedure to learn and perform.

NACS Director Dr. Nick Dala said male circumcision will help in reducing risks of HIV prevalence in the country through;

50 – 60% reduction in the risk of HIV transmission
Prevents female from getting cervical cancer through heterosexual sex
Reduce sexually transmitted infections in the country,

Training and workshop for 21 participants for this new form of male circumcision will begin tomorrow and run for the next 6 days.

A team of experts from China is here in the country to run the workshop and train health workers on how to use the SHANG RING device to carry out the procedure.

Males between the ages of 15 – 50 years of are encouraged to be circumcised for good sexual health and HIV prevention.  FM100/ PNG Today
