PNG NGCB CEO ARRESTED AND CHARGED

PNG National Gaming Control Board Chief Executive Officer Imelda Argon has been arrested and charged today with one count of Official Corruption and one count of Perjury by detectives from the National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Directorate in Port Moresby.

Director – National Fraud Anti- Corruption Directorate Chief Superintendent Matthew Damaru said prior to Ms Argon’s appointment to the CEO position, she was Director Corporate Affairs at the National Gaming Control Board and also held a role of Secretary during the tenure of former CEO Simon Sanangke.

It is alleged that between 2008 and 2011, Ms Argon compiled a report of fraud against the former CEO Mr Sanangke which was then referred to Police for investigation by the NGCB.

Investigation was conducted by Police which resulted in former CEO Mr Sanangke arrested and charged with fraud and committed to stand trial at the National Court.

The former CEO was then suspended and Ms Argon was appointed CEO for NGCB.

It was established that Ms Argon was appointed to the CEO position which she currently holds in a corrupt way.

Mr Sanangke reported the matter to Police Fraud Squad for investigation and after trial at the National Court; the charges against him were dismissed.

The National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Directorate conducted investigations and arrested Ms Argon.

She was taken to Boroko Police Station this afternoon and placed in the cells after the interview and arrest procedures were completed with Ms Argon to appear in court later this week. Fm100/PNG TOday
