Bougainville's Catholic Bishop dies
Bishop of the Diocese of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, has died of sickness yesterday at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City, republic of the Philippines. Bishop Unabali was airlifted to the Philippines to seek further medical assistance but succumbed to his illness. He is remembered to be a good shepherd to the faithful of the diocese since his appointment in December 15, 2009. Fr. Polycarp Kaviak Vicar General of Diocese of Bougainville, in a statement.
"In this sad moment, I would like to extend deepest sympathies to the family of Bishop Unabali, the clergy, religious men and women, and to the faithful of Bougainville and the Catholic Church in Papua New Guinea. I offer also condolences to his friends present here in the Philippines.
People can pay their respects at the Parish of the Our Lady of the Abandoned (POLA), Hulo, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila. His wake will begin this afternoon until Thursday morning (August 11-14, 2019). After the wake in POLA his remains will be brought to St. Peter Funeral Homes, Quezon City for preparation for repatriation. August 15, 2019 at 11:45 PM he will be airlifted to Papua New Guinea.
We ask the priests, faithful, friends, and mission partners to offer their prayers for the eternal repose of his soul, strength and comfort for the bereaved family and friends. “Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine Et lux perpetua luceat ei: Requiescat in pace. Amen.”
