PNG Civil Identity Registry Officer arrested and charged for forgery
Police Detective Officers from the Armed Robbery Squad at Boroko Police Station have formally arrested and charged a former team leader of the PNG Civil Identity and Registry (PNGCIR) project PNG National Identification (PNGNID) attached to the Central Province Registry Office with 7x counts of forging specimen signature of former acting Registrar General Michael Kumung and printing birth certificates without authorization from the then acting Registrar General Noel Mobiha.
According to the complaint by the acting Registrar General Mr Mobiha, on the dates 04th, 12th and 14th of November 2018 respectively, the arrested suspect, Ms Marama Kila from Irupara village in the Rigo District of Central Province produced false Birth Certificates to members of the public.
The investigations uncovered seven victims who have in their possession fake or false Birth Certificates with some interviewed and had their statements obtained on how they went about to obtain the certificates.
The seven victims are;
1. Jimmy Yoko Hariki
2. Benny Virigi
3. Panguna Lua
4. Martin Torini
5. Pala Virigi
6. Vagi Geno
7. Balthazaar Kaprangi
Ms Kila was invited from her work place at Central Province Civil Identity and Registry Office at Konedobu to Boroko Police Station where she was formally arrested and charged under the PNG Civil Registration Act, Chapter 304.
Police investigators revealed that Ms Kila is the third suspect arrested with two others already being arrested and charged and are set to appear at the Waigani Committal Court.
The complaint on the fraudulent activities was officially registered with a crime report and investigations are continuing with more arrests anticipated in the coming weeks.
