PNG Parliament has No Opposition as NA Party Joins Marape Government

The PNG Parliament effective as of today has no Opposition.

This comes after Opposition Leader Patrick Pruaitch announced that his National Alliance Party and the 19 MPs in the Opposition have now crossed over to join the Marape Government.

In a media conference after midday today, the NA Leader along with Prime Minister James Marape, jointly made the big announcement of the Opposition’s move.

With the Opposition benches now empty, the Government’s accountability is at question.

Prime Minister James Marape when asked if his concern about that, was frank in his response, saying it was obvious the former Prime Minister and PNC Leader Peter O’Neill did not share similar development views with his government, hence he must move to form the Opposition.

Marape said the leader of government business has already notified Parliament previously of O’Neill moving to Government.

However it’s understood O’Neill had refused to move that time.

FM100 News contacted Mr O’Neill today after Marape asked him to move to the Opposition.

But Mr O’Neill told this newsroom, he doesn’t answer to anyone except to the PNC caucus.

When asked if the caucus will discuss this, Mr O’Neill says it’s not a matter of urgency and that the PNC caucus only meets a day before any Parliament sitting in this case in Ocotober.
