Australian National arrested in PNG over K800,000 theft
AN AUSTRALIAN man was arrested and charged by NCD Fraud investigators in Port Moresby on November 13 for allegedly stealing K800,000 belonging to another Australian man.
The accused, Kenneth James West, an Australian citizen, is said to have partnered in a business deal with two other Australian businessmen to buy and export gold from PNG.
It is alleged that a man named as Mark Roland had transacted K100,000 into Kenneth’s bank account on December 20, 2018 and another K700,000 on January 25 this year purposely for the recipient to purchase and export gold to Australia.
The gold never went to Australia and so Roland came to Port Moresby and filed a complaint with the NCD Fraud squad on April 15.
The suspect was located through his lawyer, brought to the Boroko Police Station, formally interviewed and charged with two counts of misappropriation under section 383A and stealing by false pretence under section 404 (1) (a) of the PNG Criminal Code, Chapter 262 and detained at the Boroko police station cells.
He later appeared in court and was released on court bail.
