Date for first ever NRL Trial match in PNG announced

Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League has announced the date for first ever NRL trial match in PNG. PNGRFL CEO Reatau Rau said the Double Header Trials to be played at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Saturday February 22, 2020 will see the SP PNG Hunters take on Central Queensland Capras at 3.00pm followed by the NRL clubs Cronulla Sharks and Canterbury Bulldogs at 5.30pm.

Ticket prices are:

  • Grandstand K100
  • West Wings K80
  • East Stand K50
  • South Stand K30
  • North Stand K30


Oil Search National Football Stadium General Manager Lee Pokarop said the tickets will go on sale within the next seven days and will be available at Brian Bell Boroko and Gordons,
J Mart Supermarket at Erima and Cool Stuf at Waterfront, Konedobu.
‘A couple more outlets may be added,” Pokarop said.

Rau said this will be the first hit out for the SP Hunters squad for the 2020 season under new coach Matthew Church. “We should see the whole squad have some game time,” he said.
Rau said the Sharks versus Bulldogs ‘trial’ will see two NRL clubs come to Port Moresby after more than 15 years.
“So whether you are a Bulldogs or Shark supporter, come out as a rugby league fan and support the greatest game of all and our SP Hunters as well,” he said. “It will be an exciting start to our rugby league season.”
Rau acknowledged the support of the Australian Government through the Pacific Sports Program, NRL – PNG, Trustees and Management of the Oil Search National Football Stadium
and the family of sponsors and partners towards this Double Header pre season ‘trials’.
