Daughter reveals abuse by step-father on social media, PNG Police launch investigation

Papua New Guinea Police in Manus  are investigating the case of a woman and her daughters, after the eldest daughter posted their plight on Facebook in regards to allegations of abuse by their step father.

Raylene Pachichi, 22, posted about what their step father did to them over the last six years.

The young woman said despite seeking assistance from relevant authorities in Manus following various cases including domestic violence, alleged sexual advances towards the girls and stealing amongst others, the matter was never resolved.

Manus Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu when contacted by NBC News said that the matter was never reported to them.

Ms Pachichi is alleging that they had reported various incidences to Police and the Welfare Office in Manus, but they have not taken any action against the perpetrator.

PPC Yapu said he was alerted by his superiors in Port Moresby to follow up and investigate the allegation, and he has since directed his Family and Sexual Violence Unit to interview the mother and her daughters to get their statements.

He said his officers have interviewed the family today, and will proceed with their next course of action, once police have their statements.
