Australia airlifts 8 Pacific Islands Students including one from PNG out of China
There is only one Papua New Guinea student left in Wuhan, China.
A female student who decided to remain in Wuhan according to her own wish.
The other student was airlifted by an Australian assisted departure flight to Darwin, Australia on Sunday.
The Australian High Commission in Port Moresby confirmed that the PNG student was among 252 Australians, and seven others from Vanuatu.
It also revealed that they are being quarantined at the Howard Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia for 14 days.
Department of Foreign Aiiafrs and International Trade said that they will be meeting with officials from the Australian High Commission this week, to discuss arrangements to repatriate the student to PNG, at the conclusion of the quarantine period.
PNG Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, has since conveyed their sincere gratitude to the people and the Government of Australia, for their kind and humanitarian support.
In a statement, Foreign Affairs states that the assistance, yet again shows Australia’s presence and commitment to the Pacific, especially at a time when the safety and welfare of Australian citizens are just as important.
