Falcon Jet hired by Govt for Official Engagement, say PNG PM Marape

FALCON PLANE HIRED FOR GO’VT OFFICIAL ENGAGEMENTS IS LIKE ANY OTHER CLIENT HIRE: PM MARAPE

The Prime Minister, has rebutted claims made by the Opposition Leader today on continuous usage of Falcon Jet plane despite it being handed over to Air Niugini recently.

Mr James Marape said the plane hired for the PNG Government’s recent visits to Fiji and New Zealand was official as these were scheduled visits and were prioritised earlier.

“As these trips were scheduled and of great importance to the development of our nation, we have gone ahead to use the plane on normal hire for a small number of Government delegation to these respective countries.

“It is not wrong to use the plane on important occasions and it is not wrong to pay the service provider, Air Niugini.

“There is no wrong in hiring this plane; however, being stated in the media by the Opposition Leader, Hon. Belden Namah; otherwise, questioning the Government on the plane’s usage instead of taking commercial flights for official visits.

The Prime Minister said the recent and previous trips were of importance and therefore the plane was utilised. It is now under the care of Air Niugini and therefore the Government is obliged to hire it from this service provider.

“I still honour my words of using the commercial airlines from one country to another; however, again it is important that our money goes back to Air Niugini for its operations and purchasing of new fleets from hires made by individual or corporate clients including the Government.

“Like any other hires by clients; the Government did what it had done by hiring it to attend important international events.

“The Government is again chartering a Fokker aircraft from Air Niugini to Solomon Islands with business delegates who might want to invest in Solomon Islands or have business already in Solomon Island” Prime Minister Marape said.
