All schools throughout PNG shuts down
All schools from elementary, primary, secondary,vocational institutions and colleges throughout the Papua New Guinea have been suspended by the Ministry of Education as of today.
Minister for Education, Joseph Yopyyopy said the decision is in consistent with Prime Minister's directive on the 14 days lockdown following a confirmed COVID-19 case in the country.
The minister said it is a critical time that children are to stay at home and away from crowded places.
"I call on parents to keep your children indoors within these 14 days until further notice"
Schools will resume by April 6th however if there are more confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Education Ministry will look at extending the suspension period.
"At the moment, we are only concerned about students lives so we have not discussed on how to make up for the missed classes but that can come later"
Meanwhile students in boarding schools have been advised to remain in school while repatriation process will be arranged by the Department of Education.
