Director of Police Dog unit dies
The Acting Director of the Police Dog Unit Directorate Senior Inspector Luth Nidung has passed away this morning after collapsing in his office in Port Moresby.
The Late Senior Inspector Luth Nidung was pronounced dead after being brought to the Port General Hospital's Emergency section.
Officer in Charge of NCD Dog Unit Jack Hori who drove the late Senior Inspector Nidung to the hospital says he collapsed while trying to use the toilet at about 10:30am.
Late Senior Inspector Nidung, 52, from Yunzaing village in the Finschaffen District of Morobe Province was appointed as the acting unit Director of the Police Dog Unit in 2017 and served in that capacity until his death.
The Police Dog Unit under him played major security roles in the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Port Moresby and has actively carry out policing duties in terms of their response to crime incidences reported by the public.
The Late Director joined the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary in 1985 and before his recent appointment; he was previously the Officer in Charge of the Police Dog Unit Directorate.
Late Senior Inspector Nidung is survived by his wife Cathy, four children Judy, Jude, Jean, Catherine and Rebecca and four grandchildren Cathleen, Tenela, Esther and Jethro.
His body is now at the funeral home awaiting funeral arrangements.
