Governor Parkop Pushes for closure of Port Moresby Schools amid Coronavirus fears
Governor of the National Capital District Powes Parkop wants an early closure of schools in the nations’ capital.
He’s called on Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra and the Assistant Secretary NCD Education Sam Lora to close the schools early for the first term holidays to stop mass gathering in schools.
He has also spoken to Minister for Education Joseph Yopyyopy and Minister for Health Jelta Wong.
Mr Parkop said there must be real time preparation on preventative measures against the COVID-19.
Governor Parkop said his teams will begin awareness in schools and other areas in the nations’ capital on Monday.
He said managers in the city authority have been directed to carry out awareness in their respective areas on the importance of personal hygiene and social distancing.
Mr Parkop said managers in Moresby South are already doing awareness.
He said now is not the time to be complacent.
