Port Moresby zone Police Commander bashed to death by Military Personnel

The Police Commander for NCD Zone Three passed away today after he was allegedly attacked by drunk off duty military personnel last night at the ATS Settlement in Port Moresby.

Papua New Guinea Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Operations Donald Yamasombi told FM100 News that  Senior Inspector Andrew Tovere died at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

According to Yamasombie, Late Snr Inspector Tovere was responding to reports of the sale of alcohol by a black market at the settlement when he was attacked.

Mr Yamasombi says during the confrontation, a group of off duty soldiers who were there attacked the late Tovere.

Yamasombi says police and the military police are now in negotiation and have identified the military personnel involved for them to be arrested.

He strongly condemned the attack and says police were only enforcing the State of Emergency order when this unfortunate incident happended.

Mr Yamasombi strongly called on all police personnel in Port Moresby to refrain from carrying out any retaliatory acts.
