US thanks PNG

The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has thanked the government and people of Papua New Guinea for their assistance during the COVID-19 exercise.

Mr. Pompeo in a statement to PNG's Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Patrick Pruaitch, said that the US is grateful that the PNG Government has assisted to repatriate 180 US citizens and their families to the US on April 9.

He said that both governments have a greater responsibility to protect and serve their respective citizens in times of crisis, and they are grateful that PNG has once again proven to be a supportive partner to the US during the pandemic.

Mr. Pompeo also said that PNG has been in the forefront in the fight against the coronavirus, and they have provided some assistance to the cause, and they will continue to do so in an open and transparent manner into the future.

The Secretary of State also said that the two country's mutual respect and assistance, reflects the strong and unshakable bonds of this comprehensive partnership, which will see them working together to overcome and defeat this virus.
