Lt Murray Oa out on Court Bail
A military officer charged over the violent attack on his wife, has been released on a court bail of K1,200 by the Waigani Committal Court.
Second Lieutenant Murray Oa, 33, from Waima village in Kairuku, Central Province, charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm, appeared before the court on Tuesday.
It's alleged that Oa violently attacked his 30 year old wife Debbie Koare in their house at Goldie River Barracks outside Port Moresby last Thursday whilst under the influence of alcohol.
According to documents before the court, this happened when Oa viewed and misunderstood a Tiktok video on Koare's phone which Koare had produced.
A shocking video footage showing Oa violently head-butting his wife and using a heated clothing iron to attack her went viral on social media Facebook last Friday.
The complainant sustained injuries to her left thigh, left cheek, her chest, her abdomen and the left side of her forehead.
Oa was escorted by Military Police into Boroko Police Station Station on Saturday.
He was formally arrested and charged by Boroko Family & Sexual Violence Unit and detained at the Boroko cells.
After his arraignment, the court heard the bail application filed by his lawyer Martin Kombri and he was released with conditions.
Amongst the conditions, Oa shall reside at his official residence at Goldie River Barracks, shall not interfere with State witnesses, shall not consume alcohol and not commit any indictable offences.
Also, Oa shall report once every two weeks to the District Court Registry between 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and shall appear in court as and when his case is called.
The case has been adjourned to July 9 for further mention.
