PNG Police Confiscate 750 kg of Cocaine worth $80 million

Papua New Guinea Police have confiscated a substantial amount of cocaine today at Papa Lealea outside Port Moresby.

The country's Police Commissioner David Manning has told FM100 tonight  at  Police Headquarters Konedobu in Port Moresby.

about 750 kg Cocaine confiscated  by PNG Police
The cocaine was confiscated along with other items.

According to Mr Manning, the 28 bags of cocaine weighing about 750 kilograms is valued at 80 million Australian dollars or over K194 million.

He said according to investigations the drug was to be flown out of the country on the mystery plane that landed at outside of papa village last week Sunday.

The drug bust by police is the biggest ever in the history of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to date.

Mr Manning says the significant discovery comes after two years of intelligence information sharing between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) on this illegal movement of such illicit substances.

Police also confiscated three packages of cash money, three television sets, and three play stations with their remote controls as well as 18 containers of 20litre aviation gas.

The confiscation came about after the arrest of the pilot of the mystery aircraft that illegally entered the country and landed at a landing strip at Papa-Lealea outside POM on the 26th of July.

Meanwhile Mr Manning says Papua New Guineans involved this illegal trafficking of drugs will be revealed by investigations

He adds police can now confirm that PNG has been a transit point for this activity for some time now.

He says the pilot involved will be dealt with by the AFP upon his deportation while local police will work on the local context of the case.

While the joint police investigation continues into the case, Mr Manning commended members of the police, customs and the AFP for the discovery.
