Papua New Guinea thanks US Aid for Donation of 40 Oxygen Ventilators
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, James Marape has thanked the US Government for donating 40 oxygen ventilators to help patients suffering from Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Papua New Guinea.
He said PNG really needed them at this time and the donation is a sign of friendship during these critical times of COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Marape received the ventilators from the US Resident Ambassador to PNG, Erin McKee who presented them to PNG in Port Moresby on Tuesday (28/07/20).
“We thank you and let me place on record our appreciation to the US Government for stepping in at an appropriate time with the ventilators.
“These 40 ventilators will be distributed on a needs basis nationwide and not just Port Moresby only, but more importantly to other mobile care facilities being established to cater for COVID-19 cases.
“Thank you Ambassador McKee and the local USA Diplomatic Embassy here in Port Moresby for this help.
“They say a friend who helps in times of need is a friend indeed and the small but yet this significant gesture and the presentation of the 40 ventilators go a long way in catering for those who are being
infected by the virus.
“The US help comes at a time when there is a new trend in our country’s fight against COVID-19,” said Prime Minister Marape.
He said PNG will always look forward to the good and continued relationships between our two countries.
“So Madam Ambassador, please convey to President Donald Trump, the White House and the people of the United States of America, that your help is greatly appreciated by our country.
“Let me also affirm that the US had indicated its willingness to work with PNG in its efforts to containing the COVID-19 from spreading to other provinces and work side by side to arrest this pandemic.
“Let me also take time to inform our country that with the help of USA a family of nations globally has been informed of the need to assist Papua New Guinea,’’ he said.
Prime Minister Marape also indicated bilateral partners including the US, Australia, New Zealand, Republic of China, Philippines, and other nations closer to home have announced their readiness to assist PNG contain COVID-19 from spreading to other provinces.
