PNG Records five new COVID-19 cases, total confirmed cases rise to 516
A total of five new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Papua New Guinea in the last 24 hours.
Four cases are from the Tabubil township of Western Province. They are all males, with ages 19, 31, 33 and 44 respectively.
The National Capital District (NCD), on the other hand, confirmed a single COVID-19 case in a 31-year old male who resides at Gerehu stage 3B.
To date, Papua New Guinea has reported 516 COVID-19 confirmed cases and six deaths. The 13 provinces that reported cases are: NCD (301); Western Province (189); Central (7); Morobe (5); East Sepik (3); East New Britain (2); West New Britain (2); Milne Bay (2); and one case each for Southern Highlands, Eastern Highlands, West Sepik, New Ireland and Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
So far, the majority of the cases are mild and moderate.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response Mr David Manning has again repeated calls for residents to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols to prevent community transmissions.
Globally, the total confirmed cases are now 29,153,927 and the death toll stands at 927,696. There was an increase of 222,443 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.
In the Western Pacific region, a total of 13 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 551,301 cases and 11,972 deaths.
