PNG Health Minister instructs attention be given to Western Province and Port Moresby as COVID-19 cases spike
Papua New Guinea Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Sir Puka Temu has given orders for attention to be given to Western Province and National Capital District as COVID-19 cases spike in the two provinces.
This comes after Western Province reported eleven new cases overnight, bringing PNG’s total positive cases to 565.
Western Province has 202 cases whilst NCD maintains the highest number of cases with 334.
All the new cases come from North fly electorate and with ages ranging from 13 to 21. There are 10 men and one woman all of whom are asymptomatic.
The Minister said he has instructed his department to make sure resources are distributed well.
“I have issued instructions to my Department to ensure both manpower and resources are well distributed to these two areas to address the rising positive cases there," he said.
To date, 26,620 people have been tested for coronavirus in PNG. Additional 134 samples are pending laboratory results.
A total of 537 people have recovered from COVID-19 whilst there are 21 active cases that are being isolated.
He said the country’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at seven.
