PM Marape Congretulates NBC as it Celebrates 47 years of Broadcasting in PNG
Prime Minister, James Marape said the National Broadcasting Corporation is a cornerstone of Papua New Guinea’s democracy.
He said it is also a testament of a thousand tribe that has been able to unite behind one voice.
The Prime Minister made these remarks today when congratulating the national broadcaster on its 47th anniversary.
Mr. Marape thanked the board and management as well as those that have played a part in delivering services through the NBC.
''NBC has been part of the development of this country prior to Independence in not only providing news and information service to the nation especially to the rural population but it also contributing to the vibrancy of democracy in this country, and I am proud to celebrate this day, on the 47th anniversary as Prime minister,'' said Marape.
The prime minister also paid special tribute to those who have served NBC in its early days and also the current staff for their service in informing the nation on behalf of the government.
Marape also gave his assurance that although NBC is a state-owned media organization,, the government has not and will not interfere with its editorial but rather allow it to broadcast news and information freely without fear or favour,'' said Marape.
National Broadcasting Corporation Board Chairman Pius Tikili, thank both past and current governments for allowing generally free media in the country, and one that has been without any interferences since Independence.
Chairman Pius Tikili a former NBC Broadcaster said this when speaking during the National Broadcaster's 47th Anniversary commemoration, at the Broadcast House in Port Moresby this morning.
Mr. Tikili expressed gratitude to the current as well as the past governments for their contributions, towards ensuring media freedom for the country.
Mr. Tikili also took time to thank the past staff who had served NBC, and those who are currently serving in ensuring that the NBC, is continuing to deliver vital news and information to the mass as expected despite challenges.
