PNG Government to Table APEC 2018 Report
Prime Minister James Marape has assured the people of Papua New Guinea that the much talked about APEC 2018 Report is finished and ready to be presented to Cabinet and then tabled in Parliament before Christmas 2020.
He said this during the FM100 Talkback Show on Friday.
Prime Minister Marape said the main reason for the delay was that two different offices and two line agencies of the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council had responsibility of disbursement of expenditure for APEC 2018.
He said the two different offices were Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council which had oversight of the staging of APEC 2018, and Department of Finance which had oversight of procurement.
The Department of Prime Minister’s line agencies were APEC Authority which was in charge of logistics, and the APEC Secretariat which oversaw policy documentation of the meetings.
“Reports were not coming in from each of these offices and I am disappointed to find that there was even some blame game as well,” Prime Minister Marape said.
“The Department of Prime Minister was then tasked to put together all the reports from the responsible offices, including reports from the APEC Authority, and the report is now completed.
“We have also utilised the services of a reputable auditing firm to come in and take a look at the books to check out and balance everything in preparation for the presentation of the report to Cabinet and the tabling of the report in Parliament.”
Prime Minister Marape assured the country that the report would be tabled in Parliament as Papua New Guineans deserve to know how public funds were spent to host APEC 2018
