PNG Parliament Speaker Pomat adjourns Parliament to Wednesday 16th December
The Papua New Guinea Parliament Speaker Job Pomat has adjourned Parliament to Wednesday 16th December 2020, at 10: am .
This is so he can seek the courts interpretation on the status of Kerowagi MP Bari Palma who has allegedly been declared bankrupt by the Courts.
Mr. Palma's eligibility as an MP was raised in Parliament when he was declared insolvent by the Supreme Court on 01st June 2017.
Speaker Pomat told Parliament he does not want to rule on the case but leave it to the Courts to decide on whether Mr. Palma remains an MP or is dismissed from office.
Opposition Leader and Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah argued that a recent order has set aside the previous order and allowed Mr. Palma to continue as MP.
While there was chaos and shouts initially, the members have agreed with the Speaker's decision to adjourn parliament.
